Through collaboration with the IISD-Experimental Lakes Area and universities across North America, our team has carried out a series of large scale in-lake limnocorral experiments and we are conducting a whole-lake manipulation experiment to study the fate and effects of microplastics on freshwater ecosystems.

Conducting experiments in a highly controlled setting like a laboratory limits the hypotheses one is able to test. Conducting experiments in nature opens up the possibility to explore a large number of hypotheses, including those relevant to direct and indirect ecological effects.
